The GCSBMDC tries to organize group activities several times a year. Some of the activities are educational in nature but many of them are primarily for fun. For the true Berner lover, there is nothing like 50 Berners running free and playing together at one time. One of the truly amazing aspects of this breed is that this many Berners can interact at one time with no aggressive behavior. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend these or other club activities. These get-togethers provide a great opportunity to meet and learn about Berners and discuss all aspects of the breed with club members in an informal setting.

There are approximately three main group activities a year where club members and there dogs meet for fun, education and games. These activities be found on the Club Calendar page and some description of the events are listed below:

Annual Awards Meeting:  This meeting is the kickoff of our club year and is usually in the end of March or the early part of April. It is held in the Phoenix area and is composed of a potluck and an afternoon of fun and games. The annual club awards are given out to members that have finished any of their dogs or have contributed significantly to the club over the last year. This is also where new officers and board members for the following year are introduced to the club members. This year the meeting had an Easter theme with group pictures and games and all who attended had a great time.

Berner Blow Out (camp-out):  This activity is one of the most fun of the year. Many of our members and usually 30 to 50 Berners meet in Northern Arizona for one or two days of fun and games. The event is usually held outside of Flagstaff  and many individuals camp overnight for the second day.  There are usually educational clinic’s on subjects such as drafting and obedience. This is one of the best opportunities to see these wonderful animals running in open fields and enjoying themselves in the cool pines.

Christmas Party:  The Christmas party is usually held in early December and includes a gift exchange, dinner and games. This is a fun event to celebrate the Christmas season and both dogs and members have a great time. Santa usually shows up and pictures of Santa with Berner is always a treat.
